A Letter from Van, Halle's Partner

I think aging is so beautiful; and I always have. The maturity of the women in my life is a source of strength. The way women see the world and the way they describe the world they see — with such detail, humor, and rawness — has always made sense to me, and therefore, has always been reassuring. And as a man, it gives me the confidence to be all of what I am — to compliment the fullness of womanhood.

If someone important to me is struggling, there is no way I would not want to know — and no way I would not want to help them find a remedy. We have to talk to the women in our lives. To hear them open up about pains and ills of which we know nothing about — and cannot fix with our hands. We have to lead with love, curiosity, and patience... instead of bravado and know-how. I think the wildest future I can imagine is one in which men learn how to support women, emotionally.

For these reasons, I would implore men to gift the women in their lives a Respin; a place where women and men can learn about women's health. Where the societal shift that we all feel coming can fulfill its promise.

Menopause doesn’t just impact women — it impacts relationships, families, and the people who love them. As partners, so many of us were never taught what this transition really means, or how to help.
